Rhino and ZBrush are the two most talked-about tools in jewelry CAD — and the "which is better?" debate misses the point. They are built for different jobs. Rhino is a precision, dimension-driven modeler; ZBrush is a digital sculpting tool. The best studios don't choose one; they use each where it excels. Here is how to think about it.
Rhino (with MatrixGold / RhinoGold)
Rhino is a NURBS modeler, meaning it builds geometry from mathematically precise curves and surfaces. Paired with jewelry plugins like MatrixGold, it becomes a manufacturing powerhouse with gem libraries, automatic prong and bezel tools, pavé layout, and weight and metal estimates.
Best for:
- —Engagement rings, bands, and anything geometric or symmetrical.
- —Accurate stone seats, prongs, bezels, and pavé.

Limitations: organic, flowing, hand-sculpted forms are slow and unnatural to build with NURBS.
ZBrush
