In jewelry, it means modeling a ring, pendant, bracelet, or earring inside specialized software with real-world dimensions — stone sizes, prong placement, metal thickness, and gallery height all defined down to fractions of a millimeter. The finished file can be rendered into a photorealistic image for client approval, then exported and 3D printed in castable resin or wax to begin the casting process.

The CAD design process, step by step
- 1.Brief & references — the designer gathers sketches, reference images, stone specifications, ring size, and metal type.
- 2.Blockout — a rough 3D form establishes proportions, stone placement, and overall silhouette.
- 3.Detailing — prongs, bezels, pavé seats, engraving, milgrain, and texture are added with manufacturing tolerances in mind.
